Over the course of a year, Tanner sent hundreds of handwritten letters to people across all walks of life: designers, writers, scientists, small town mayors, incarcerated inmates. He asked them one question: What's Worth Preserving? Sixty wrote back, each response more interesting than the last, in their own handwriting, on their own paper.

Dave Eggers answered on custom hand-drawn letterhead. Seth Godin sent a giant novelty Post-it. Jane Goodall, George Lois, Debbie Millman, Ivan Chermayeff, and fifty-five others said yes.

300 backers funded the campaign. The first edition sold out.
