Typographic Murals
Language as form, structure, and memory

Things Take a Long Time
Acrylic on Weathered Concrete, 60×25’
Gary, Indiana
© 2018

Working with language as form, structure, and memory, Tanner masks letters in vinyl and tape, builds them up with paint, then reveals them in a moment that feels equal parts precision and discovery. The work has structure you can read from across a room and texture you notice up close. At scale, letterforms become architecture. The walls stop being background and become the focus.

The projects range from the cornerstones of Soho House Chicago to a three-wall installation in Boulder, Colorado. Some begin with a community-listening session, others a single phrase. Each starts with a word and ends with a wall that makes people stop in their tracks.

More than 20 murals completed across the Midwest.
